How We Support Our Students

The Jefferson High School counseling staff uses the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model as the framework for our school counseling program.  The model emphasizes a comprehensive and development approach.  The concepts of student advocacy, leadership, collaboration, and systematic change are infused throughout the program.

How do I meet with my counselor?

Students are assigned to a counselor alphabetically by last name.  To find out who your counselor is, please visit the Counselors page. Referrals may be made by the student, parent/ guardian, or teacher.  Students may make an appointment to meet with their counselor by signing into the kiosk by the counseling office or by email.  Parents/ guardians may contact a counselor, by email or by phone, to schedule an appointment.

CONFIDENTIALITY

A student’s right to privacy and confidentiality is the basis for an effective counseling relationship. A school counselor's primary obligation for confidentiality is to the student, but this obligation is balanced with an understanding of parents'/guardians' legal and inherent right to guide and make decisions on their student's behalf. Confidentiality ensures that school counselors won’t share students’ disclosures with others except when the student or parent/ guardian authorizes it or when there is an evident danger to the student and/or to other persons.
