PSAT Testing Updates

This webpage will offer ongoing updates regarding the PSAT test canceled in October 2022. Jefferson County Schools is dedicated to ensuring students do not jeopardize any opportunities that taking the test as scheduled would have provided. Please find the student supports being initiated below, along with a Frequently Asked Questions section.

Update: Dec. 19, 2022

Jefferson County Schools is taking the following steps to make support students and ensure they are not harmed because of circumstances beyond their control:

  1. We have mailed individual letters to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) on behalf of all impacted students requesting that they be allowed to apply for the scholarship using alternative entry materials. We anticipate hearing a final decision from them early next month and will share their response as soon as it is received.

  2. Our staff worked with our partners in higher education and have confirmed that the cancelation of the test will not impact dual enrollment.

  3. JHS Counselors distributed information about the APEX practice program that prepares students for standardized tests, including the SAT. It comes at no cost to them. Please check the student's Canvas account if you did not receive the information. Students can also contact their counselor for any help or instructions.

  4. We have refunded any money paid for the PSAT test to families.
