How lucky are we, to celebrate THREE Positive Office Referrals today?! Congratulations to kindergartener, Treazure Hairston, second grader, Miles Siddoway, and fifth grader, Corbin Brooks! Treazure jumped in to help other students during a busy dismissal. Miles is a model citizen in class, showing kindness and responsibility every day. Corbin used his own money to buy something for a friend from the school store. All three of these awesome students deserve this recognition—-they are extraordinary examples for all of us at SJES. 💜💛 Ms. Mahoney

Thanks to our Jefferson county WVU Extension Service for bringing a fun lessons to our Kindergartners. This visit taught the students the best times to wash hands with the proper technique. They used a fluorescent lotion and a UVA lamp to check their work. 👀 Way to wash those germs away!

Love was in the air at South Jefferson…from sharing valentines with one another, to gathering almost 2,500 items for Community Ministries, to a 4th grade poetry slam, to engaging in STEAM lessons, to special animal visitors, to SJES library donations from our community, to tea parties and treats….love was DEFINITELY in the air.

Let’s celebrate our 5th graders who participated in the County Science Fair this weekend…congratulations to Tommy Estrada (2nd place, Physics and Astronomy), Kennedy Carroll and Kate Magaha (1st place, Material Sciences) and Camden Tiong and Gio Lupinacci (1st place, Elementary Engineering). Keith Slay and Roland Walsh also participated from South Jefferson. We are super proud of all of our 5th graders and their leadership at the County level. lmpressive! 💜💛

So, a little secret: even Principals love a snow day, every now and then. 😉 We held our Winter White Out Day today and, judging by our student and staff participation, wishes for a snowy Christmas or snow days ahead seem to be within our reach! ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Pajama Day was a winner! There’s nothing like seeing the holidays through the eyes of a child….or over 400 children. 😉 We’re having fun, learning through the chaos and enjoying our traditions. I’m pretty sure our students will remember these moments far beyond their time at SJES. (Me, too!)

Thank you to Rodney Snyder, LVHS teacher, and his students, for sharing their coding expertise with our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at SJES. Mr. Snyder is always ready to lend a hand to us and we are always grateful for his time. Our students had a blast working with him and his team!

Holiday Headgear Day was fun! 🤩

Three incredible 4th graders helped decorate the United Bank Christmas tree today, using ornaments created by all of the SJES students. This is an annual tradition, with one student per 4th grade class chosen to represent our school. We had a fun morning and Erica, Gracelynn and Samuel did an awesome job decorating the tree with such care and enthusiasm. We started the morning with Starbucks to put us in the holiday mood and were spoiled with treats from United Bank. What a magical day!

As we wrap up 2025, we'd like to have a little fun for the next couple of weeks. Participation isn't mandatory, but it sure makes for a fun day, if you'd like to join in. Monday, December 8th: This will be a day to TOP all days, with your holiday headgear prominently displayed! Wear your Santa hat, your reindeer antlers, your elf ears or any creative top of the dome adornment you can find! Tuesday, December 9th: How about a candy cane lane spectacular, wearing all red and white, or stripes, to show off your holiday spirit so bright!? Who doesn't love a candy cane? Wednesday, December 10th: Let's warm our hearts and feet with a "toasty tootsies", festive feet kind of day where you get to wear your most fabulous holiday (or wild!) socks! Monday, December 15th: Are the holidays or the winter weather wearing you out? How about a pajama day, where you wear your snuggliest holiday (or cool) pajamas. Let's slide into this week in comfortable style.... Tuesday, December 16th: If there's a chill in the air, a cozy "channel your flannel" day sounds awesome! Wear your plaid/flannel for a plaid-tastic fun-filled day! Wednesday, December 17th: I'll let you in on a little secret...even the Principal loves the first snow day! How about we create a festive "winter wonderland", wishing for snow, "white out" day! Dress head to toe in white, to bring on the future snow days ahead? Thursday, December 18th: Did someone say Whoville? Today is the day to have the grinchiest day in all of Whoville! Wear your grinch-themed wear and let everyone see your heart grow three sizes today! Friday, December 19th (2 Hour Early Dismissal): Our annual "Ugly Sweater"/Christmas outfit extravaganza! Wear your wildest sweater, socks, headgear to celebrate our last day together before our Winter Break! Let's see how festive you can be today!
