🏆🎶 The JHS Marching Band takes first place in the Tournament of Bands! Congratulations to the Cougars for their first-place win in Class 4A at the Musselman High School Tournament of Bands Show this weekend with a score of 90.21! The band also won Best Percussion, Best Music, Best Visual, and the “People’s Choice” award. They are now ranked first nationally in the Tournament of Bands circuit. Go Cougars!

The sunrise made a beautiful backdrop for friends to make memories they’ll hold onto long after graduation. Thanks to the hard work of the senior class officers for making this event possible. 🥇🎶 Congratulations to the Jefferson High School Marching Band on another 1st place win in Group 4A at the annual Tournament of Bands event! The Cougars are currently ranked #1 in the circuit, competing against bands from eight states across the Mid-Atlantic region. This is the second year in a row they’ve taken top honors after returning to the competition last year following a 10-year hiatus. Way to go, Cougars!
🎓🏆 Congratulations to JHS seniors Ella McCabe and Louisa Pate for being named semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program! These remarkable students are set to showcase their academic talents at the Finalist level, competing for one of 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million next spring. We’re cheering them on as they continue this incredible journey! 💪📚
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Success begins with attendance; it is an essential skill in life! Jefferson High School would like to recognize the 904 students with Perfect Attendance in August. As a way to celebrate the success of our students, we are planning incentives throughout the school year. A Free Admission Ticket to a JHS sporting event will be awarded to a student from each grade level in a random drawing each month.

Jefferson High School recently showcased an Appalachian Heritage display, featuring artifacts representing Indigenous, English, African, German, Irish, and French cultures. Since returning to school, students across the district have been studying Appalachian history and West Virginia culture. Appalachia spans 13 states, including all of West Virginia, and is known for its strong values of family, freedom, and self-reliance. At JCS, we're proud to celebrate the rich history and heritage of our region! 💙💛

Student Chrome Book pick up for grades 10-12 will be from 1pm to 4pm on August 13, 2024. Please enter through the main entrance and pick up will be in the media center. What is not picked up will be given out during the first week of school.
Freshman/New Student Orientation: August 15, 2024. This is an open house style event from 6pm to 8pm. Please enter the building through the main entrance. Freshman may also pick up their chrome books at this time in the cafeteria. Upperclassmen cannot pick up their chrome book at this time. All devices not picked up will be distributed the first week of school.

Our amazing educators engaged in interactive sessions over three days to boost their teaching strategies. This focus on continuous improvement gave them new tools and techniques to create even better and more supportive classrooms. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback demonstrate just how impactful this workshop was in fostering educational excellence!

Congrats to Jefferson High School grad Jasmine Matthews, recipient of the Rissler Sisters and South Jefferson Ruritan Club Scholarships from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation! At JHS, Jasmine was an outstanding student-athlete who excelled in volleyball, track, and the Black Student Association. Now she’s headed to Muskingum University to study Biology/Pre-Vet and become an emergency or exotic veterinarian. Jasmine is one of eight JHS students and seven Washington High School students to receive these prestigious scholarships from the Eastern WV Community Foundation. We’re so proud of all our scholarship winners!
